What Are the CD-Based Reinstallation Instructions?

There are 2 main type of CD based re-installation procedure, generic and Geometry specific. Please jump to the corresponding section.

Generic CD (excluding Geometry)

If your CD-based course stopped running properly even though it has worked previously, then your CD course installation may have become corrupt. Please back up your student progress and then uninstall and re-install the CD course completely using steps below.

STEP 1: Back up your course progress online (if not up to date).
If at all possible, log in locally to your CD course and send in a progress report. If it sends correctly, there should be no errors and it should end with no alert messages. If there is any error, then skip to step 2.

STEP 2: Back up your local course settings.
Save a copy of the entire "Students" folder (located at C:\EPGY\Students) to another location such as on the computer desktop or on a USB Flash Memory drive.

STEP 3: Uninstall the EPGY program using the Windows 7 Programs and Features tool. Click on start, and scroll to "Control Panel." Under "Programs" choose "Uninstall a Program." Select "EPGY Course Series System" from the list and choose "Uninstall."
(For more details, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-change-program#uninstall-change-program=windows-7  )

STEP 4: Manually delete the EPGY folder and restart your computer.

Delete the entire “EPGY” folder (located at C:\EPGY). Empty your computer’s Recycle Bin. Restart your computer.

NOTE: Keep your CD course closed until after you confirm that ALL following steps are done.

STEP 5: Install EPGY software CD using EPGYID and installation password. For details, see the CD-Based Courses FAQ.

STEP 6: Replace the saved copy of your “Students” folder back into C:\EPGY

STEP 7: Try running your course. Did it save your progress data? If the course restarts at the beginning, then click admin menu and reset your course location.

HOW TO INSTALL THE STAND-ALONE VERSION OF PROOFED, known as PublicProofED or Public Proving Environment:

“My installed copy of the Proof Environment (ProofEd) is not working as expected. Reinstalling ProofEd did not fix the issue. How can I fix it?”

Solution: Install the alternate Public Proving Environment instead. This alternate version runs independently of the Geometry course engine.

How to install the Public Proving Environment version (PublicProofEd):

STEP 1: Browse online to http://epgy.stanford.edu/TPE/. Navigate to the ProofEd downloads page, and download a fresh copy of the Public Proving Environment at http://epgy.stanford.edu/TPE/PublicTheoremProvingEnvironment.exe . This public version runs outside of the Geometry course engine.

STEP 2: Change the Public Proving Environment to install using compatibility mode. Install the Public Proving Environment. You may install it into the c:/EPGY folder.

STEP 3: Change the newly installed file properties to run in compatibility mode.

STEP 4: Download a copy of the M015.tpdb file http://epgy.stanford.edu/TPE/samples/m015.thdb. Place it into the same folder of the Public Proving Environment.

STEP 5: Confirm that the Public ProofED works: Open an example proof file.
