What Are the Geometry Installation Overview and Instructions?

For students enrolled in Geometry course, there are three (3) software applications that should be installed and used:

1. The main course engine on the system CD: If using Windows 7 or 8, you must run the installer and the course engine in compatibility mode. Please refer to the How to Install a CD-based Course 

2. Geometer's Sketchpad: A demo version of Geometer's Sketchpad, a dynamic geometry software, is supplied with GiftedandTalented.com course CD's. This is used in addition to your GiftedandTalented.com course software. Students work within the demo version's 20 minute time limit, then reopen the demo for their next attempt.

Note: G&T.com does not supply full Geometer's Sketchpad licenses. Some students choose to purchase the full version. To purchase a full version of Geometer's Sketchpad, go to URL http://www.chartwellyorke.com/sketchpad/x24795.html. Download the correct version for your operating system.

3. Proof Environment: We suggest that you install the Proof Environment (commonly referenced as ProofEd) software prior to running the basic Geometry course. Log into www.giftedandtalented.com with an active student account to access the ProofEd installer. To access it from within your Learning Center, click on the course image to reach the Course Details page, then select the Course Information tab to find the download link.

Please ignore the following error message when opening a proof file (or generating a new one):

"Failed to update the system registry. Please try using REGEDIT."

Although seeing this repeatedly might be distracting, it doesn't affect the functioning of the Proof Environment in any way. You will see the error message above whenever .proof file is opened (or generate a new one within the Geometry course lessons), however, this does not affect the functioning of the Proof Environment. Proofs within the Geometry lessons can be opened by double-clicking .proof files saved on the computer in use, and by opening .proof files sent as email attachments.

If you prefer not to use the proof environment to submit your answers, you can submit them to your tutor directly with these instructions.
